ROTCHY BLOG – 10 Years of This?!

Happy Birthday to us!

How crazy is that? The little promotion that could – Inter Species Wrestling has officially been alive for 10 years. I’ve said it many times. We were not supposed to make it this far. The first show was named “One Hit Wonder!?” because we weren’t sure if it would be or not. Looking back at most of that show’s card, quality wise, we probably should have cut our losses. I’m glad as hell that we didn’t, though. I feel like our improvement has been fairly steady, and is still continuing. From a dingy, shoulda been condemned building in Valleyfield, Quebec – to shitty bars, congress centers, music festivals, and punk/indie music venues. Whether you’ve been a fan since day one, or year five, or even if you JUST started to dig us – thank you. I don’t know how realistic another 10 years of Inter Species Wrestling would be – but as long as you all love (tolerate?) and support us – I’m sure we’ll keep this thing going.

Now, last week I dropped that we’d be making a few 10th Anniversary related announcements. Here they are. Nothing monumental, but still a few things that’ll help celebrate 10 years of ISDub.

First off - one that’ll be fun for new fans as well as those who have been around a while. We’re working on a DVD set that’ll feature the best matches from our earlier years. Want to see the first time we used Lego? The debuts of some of your favorites? The crowning of our first champion? Kevin Steen and El Generico’s runs in Inter Species Wrestling? Well, this first DVD set will cover the majority of that. Basically, the best of everything from the “Canada years.” Now all you curious people won’t have to buy our old shows (which I refer to as “the practice years”) – and sit through garbage like Snake the Jake vs. Super Mart in order to find hidden gems like Max Boyer vs. Kevin Steen, Player Uno vs. Ultramantis Black, Mike Quackenbush in the first ever Inter Species Wrestling main event and more. The match list is still being sorted, but this will be a big set. Look for this to be on sale around Halloween.

Second – I’ve been planning this for years – and it’s going to come out this year. I’m working on a book. Not a biography or anything, just something I’ve wanted to do for a while. I’m working on a book that highlights 10 years of Inter Species Wrestling related artwork. Character designs, belt designs, posters, DVD covers, t-shirts, and everything else. It WILL have some Inter Species Wrestling related stories in it, so it’s not just a pretty picture book. It’s something I’ve been working hard on, and I can’t wait to get it out there. The only issue is that the book will be self published, so to cover costs I will be setting up a page as a way to take preorders for it’s expected release date of Halloween 2015. There will be package deals, and special perks for people who preorder – and I really hope you’ll consider grabbing a copy.

Third – Over the years, I’ve received varying reasons for why people won’t buy Inter Species Wrestling t-shirts. Ranging from “they’re always black” to “there’s always blood and dead stuff on ‘em.” For the most part, you’re not wrong – and I could see where that would be a problem. I was thinking about it recently, and realized our best selling shirts didn’t have dead stuff on ‘em. Hmm. I also realized that they were printed on colors such as yellow, and green, and red, etc. Not always black. I hit up a buddy of mine – Hayze – who is an incredible graphic artist who you all should commission, and pitched an idea based on an awesome Skeletor shirt I saw that said “Conquer Greyskull.” He made this…

And it’s available to order right now (ON MULTIPLE COLORS!) – here – http://teespring.com/conquer

And last, but not least, there’s this video I had planned on uploading – but I hit all sorts of snags this week on a personal level. There have been times where people have asked us “what ever happened to this person?” We visited with a few key players from Inter Species Wrestling’s past, and they told us all what their time with us meant to them. Check it out in a few days when I get around to editing it!

In the meantime – what Inter Species Wrestling has been to me, personally, is the only passion project I’ve ever stuck with. My creative outlet, and my first love. It’s allowed me to travel new places, try new things, and meet the people who mean the most to me today. I don’t claim to be anything special, but I wouldn’t be who I am without the past 10 years.

You can celebrate 10 years of Inter Species Wrestling by partying it up with us as we present Candy Apples & Razorblades on October 31, live from the Heirloom Arts Theatre in Danbury, Connecticut!  Wear your costume!  Bring your friends.  Let’s get nuts.  Info and tickets – http://interspecieswrestling.com/product/candy-apples-and-razorblades-event-ticket/

Happy Birthday to us!
